Winners announced for inaugural Maha Mango (મહા મેંગો) Krushi Spardha
Congratulations to all winners of the "Maha Mango Krushi Spardha 2022"!
We announced a nationwide Maha Mango Krushi Spardha (મહા મેંગો, 2022) in May 2022. The purpose of the Competition was to recognize our farmers' community who not only work hard but also bring innovation in farming, experimenting with various farming techniques, especially in mango farming. We are happy to announce that the effort was successful, as the response was massive, receiving entries from more than four states and eight varieties of Mangoes. The purpose is also to create awareness of these varieties of mangoes eaten locally. We know 'Ratnagiri Hafus' and 'Gir Talala Kesar' and thanks to this Competition, we will be tempted to try our winning mango type, 'Nariyeli'.
The Competition ended with the end of the Mango Season on June 30, 2022. The winner of the Competition is 'Mastanbhai Patel'. Congratulations, Dear Mastanbhai Patel! Mastanbhai submitted his heaviest Nariyeli Mango weighing 0.995 kg. The mango is called 'Nariyeli' due to it's size and shape similar to a Coconut(Nariyeli in Gujarati). Mastanbhai also grows 'RupSundari' variety which is less known to the mango lovers community. Mastanbhai is recipient of many environmental and farming institutions, including the VNM Environmental Excellence award in 2019. at 65, Mastanbhai is committed to bringing innovation in agriculture. He has been successfully delivering great quality fruits from his horticulture farm such as mangoes, guava, pomegranate, palm oil, Chikoo, Dates, Dragonfruit, Indian Jujube, and Vegetables such as drumstick, thin skinned lemon, lady finger, gourds, and many more. Mastanbhai is also leading in Agroforestry environmental crops such as Teakwood, Bamboo, white and Red Sandalwood, varieties of Tamarind, Eucalyptus tree, and many more. He keeps his knowledge updated by constantly reading farm innovations, using modern farming/agri-tech apps, and likes to experiment with grafting of various crops.
Our First Runner up is Mr. Ratilal Vasava a farmer from Uchchal region, who submitted Rajapuri mango, of weight 0.978 gm. The Second Runner up is Mr.Bharat Dobariya from Madhupur village, Talala-Junagadh,who submitted Dasehari mango of weight 0.962 kg, came very close to winning mango.
We want to thank all our participants for taking the time, sending pictures, and showcasing their best work during this mango season.
